Where to start (using our words wisely)
Only place to start is the beginning and the best thing is we can start now. We shouldn’t be caught up with past mistakes or shames they should not define you, especially if you want to create lasting change. Be aware of the words you use towards yourself and others both verbally and mentally by take an inventory, you’re be surprised how much lies we entertain on a daily basis.
Now we will never be able to stop these thought completely or others unkind words sometimes but how we decide to process them is on us. That may sound direct I know, but when I learnt this truth and sat with it for a while knowing it was me allowing the maximum amount of pain into my mind. When I knew the truth of who I really am or the me I am growing towards it made it clear that some people can be mean, with some also projecting their hurts and disappointments onto me. People maybe be correct at times in relation to some behaviours we display and we may need to improve this but we should only see this as growth opportunity. Its knowing what and who were dealing with, whether the intention behind it is of caring correction and love, this is the heart posture that needs to be behind it. It shouldn’t leave us with years of shame or doubt but clarity that leads to revelations that help us improve.
We can start now by agreeing that we won’t be discouraged with ourselves when we mess up on this journey but we will jump back on course. This is a marathon not a sprint.
We just start by pausing before every word we release from our mouth. Having a pause helps us gather the right words and if we’re in a challenging situation I love to ask ‘is my response going to fuel this disagreement'. I strive for peace wherever I can for the other person and me (now I dont always get this right) but I chose to pick my battles. There will be times a stern word will be needed but the aim here is not to tear others down but to stick to the situation in hand. We also find that taking time to respond to texts that are inflammatory or ingnoring them altogether may help us. When we know that we will not settle for anything but truth, respect and love for others and or ourselves we will not entertain anything but words that help us grow or glow.
If this is not natural for you don’t worry. At times it will be hard not clapping back and if we are honest it comes from wanting to be right or have the last word in discussions even those that don't really matter that much. Some people no matter what we say will believe their truth so again protect your peace. No striving for being right unless its something that is of significance.
Eventually your start to see the people around us change usually positivity and it will encourage others to change for the better.
