let’s Start with the lies spoken over us

We need to start at the beginning and that’s the lies been spoken over us by ourselves or others throughout our life. Have you ever heard do not believe everything you think? Well, that’s true because first we have many thoughts a day and it’s our version of truth (not necessarily the truth). It's mixed in with our life experiences good and bad, what we have been taught, how we were raised, our environment, location in the world, our gender. Psychologists acknowledge rejection can be traced back to the womb. The other thing about believing every thought you have, is have you ever got something wrong about someone because you mis judged or didn't have the full picture, leading you to make a mistake?

So now if this can happen to you it can certainly happen when others speak into your life and circumstances. Understanding that, not everything someone says is true can be the starting point of disengaging with these lies. People project their hurt, past, bitterness, regrets, wishes onto others some may have believed they were well meaning in that moment. Some may have been abusive, lack maturity or experience, having their struggles or under the influence of some sort.

It’s possible you feel that you have lived up to some of what was said to you but here's the thing when something is said or repeated over the part of the brain that processes information can't tell the difference between what's reality and which is not, surprising right?. So no wonder why we can be scared of a bear for example, even pictures of a bear and our heart races like it’s an immediate threat. If you live in say the UK its not really a realistic threat because there aren't bears. The brain cannot tell the difference research has been done on this. The brain plays a lot of tricks on us.

We tend to live up to the narrative of these lies until it becomes our truth. Are brain doesn't tell us otherwise. We have all been there and you're not alone, these lies slip back in when we’re about to do something great trying to make us shrink back. I find talking back to the lie helps, telling these words it’s clearly a lie and I don’t associate with it. Repeating as often as needed.

These lies we’ve told ourselves it’s time to stop. Even making fun of yourself as a way of covering up things that make you feel uncomfortable. Have you heard comedians aren't as happy as it seems and many have reported intense mental health struggles. They often poke fun at their self, struggles and life in general. I wasn't a comedian but was a super smiley and made jokes about my life but inside I was breaking. I smile less now because I don't feel the need to conform for anyone and I am happy from the inside out.

If you take away anything from this post its don't believe every thing you've been told or what you told yourself. Even your brain doesn't believe it all.
